Dr. Scott Parazynski is a highly decorated physician, astronaut, best-selling author (“The Sky Below”) and tech CEO. He is a widely sought after keynote speaker on innovation, risk management, mentorship and leadership under extreme adversity.

Scott has lived and traveled all over the world, spending many of his grade school years in places such as Senegal, Lebanon, Iran and Greece. A graduate of Stanford University and Medical School, he went on to train at Harvard and in Denver for a career in emergency medicine and trauma. In 1992 he was selected to join NASA's Astronaut Corps and eventually flew 5 Space Shuttle missions and conducted 7 spacewalks. Mission highlights include a global ozone mapping flight; leading the first joint US-Russian spacewalk while docked to the Russian space station Mir; serving as Senator John Glenn's crewmate and "personal physician"; and assembly of the Canadian-built space station robotic arm.

In October 2007, Scott led the spacewalking team on STS-120, during which he performed 4 EVAs. The final EVA is regarded by many as one of the most challenging and dangerous ever performed. The tremendous coordinated effort in orbit and on the ground by Mission Control has been likened to the Space Shuttle and Space Station era's "Apollo 13 moment." He was inducted into the US Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2016.

In addition to being a diver and accomplished mountaineer, Scott is also a commercial, instrument, multiengine and seaplane-rated pilot. On May 20, 2009, he became the first astronaut to stand on top of the world, the summit of Mount Everest. As a life-long explorer, he and a colleague set the first bootprints adjacent the world’s youngest lava lake, inside the crater of Masaya Volcano in Nicaragua.

He is a prolific inventor/product developer, and serves on the Boards of several companies. He is Founder and CEO of Fluidity Technologies, focused on the development of revolutionary input devices powered by machine learning to intuitively move through physical and virtual space. He also serves as Chief Medical Officer of Community Wellness, delivering state-of-the-art remote patient monitoring and wellness coaching to aging adults.

Among his many presentations, he has:

  • Delivered hundreds of keynotes to corporate leaders, industry and scientific conventions, and major non-profit organizations
  • Presented Medical Grand Rounds at some of the world's most prestigious medical schools, hospitals and conferences
  • Appeared on all major US broadcast networks as well as many overseas TV networks, discussing various aspects of the space program, the importance of exploration, STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and technological innovation

Tenacity Redefined: Achieving the Summit of Everest from Space and on Foot!

Scott first read of the early heroic and sometimes tragic conquests of Everest as a young boy, but it wasn't until he ogled it from 250 miles straight up - from the overhead windows of Space Shuttle Atlantis - that he really committed to getting there on foot one day. His path to the physical summit was zig-zagged but unwaivering. Scott’s keynote for one of my speaker bureau’s key national clients was a resounding success. He worked closely with us and a third party to ensure all their needs were met. Scott’s generosity to accommodate an extended onsite role well beyond his speech stood out. They remarked: “Scott's presentation and VIP meet and greet were a huge hit! Everyone was so engaged throughout, and guests were chatting about him after. Our key stakeholders were impressed with him and happy with how the keynote presentation fit into the program week! From our perspective at the planner, Scott was incredibly easy to work with and so interesting and kind."

Not only was it captivating to hear him tell his stories about his adventures in traveling to space and his expeditions to the highest peaks in the world, but people were truly inspired and enjoyed learning of his perspectives on leadership, team work, perseverance, innovation, preparedness, etc. We could not have asked for a better speaker to kick off our program. We recently had the pleasure and privilege of having physician, astronaut, mountain climber and humanitarian Scott Parazynski, M.D. speak at our annual American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery meeting in Denver, Colorado. As president of the society, I sought out a speaker who would inspire, attract and grab the attention of our membership, and maybe even make me look smart for bringing him in. I got so much more than I expected. On first contact, I found I was speaking to a nice, ordinary-sounding guy, excited to come speak and curious about our unique group. Our full-house was spellbound for Scott's entire presentation. When the announcement first went out, our high-achievers flocked to the huge meeting hall partly expecting to feel somewhat in awe and unaccomplished in comparison to this superman of human achievement. In addition, many felt he might be unapproachable with so many wanting to see for themselves what someone who has done so many amazing things would be like. The reality was far better than we could have expected. The only shortcoming of the talk for most of our members, was that it wasn't 3 hours long. We were spellbound by the fantastic images accompanied by real-life descriptions of each experience. I believe the entire membership left the lecture hall feeling we could accomplish so many more of our dreams. The talk opened up the possibility of chasing one's dreams, and reaching higher, having seen the literal and figurative heights that Scott has attained, with extreme effort, bravery and fear, successes and failures. In short, you should not miss having Scott Parazynski speak at your event, whatever it may be. The fantastic story of a young boy chasing his dreams opens up possibilities in anyone's life, who is lucky enough to hear Scott speak. The lecture is delivered by a thoroughly brilliant, pleasant, humble, and witty guy you could envision hanging out with.

I invited Scott to share his passion and experiences interacting with the public at a NASA-wide meeting in Boulder in September, 2010. My audience was totally captivated by Scott's warm personality, and he was able to quickly connect with the participants and actively engage them in his talk. As the only astronaut that has flown five times in space and scaled Mt. Everest, Scott has a unique perspective on engaging the public in the wonders of space and science. He shares his passion and perspective every day through his career and extra-curricular activities, and I was extremely pleased with the outcome of his talk.

As we began our search for a guest speaker at our offsite management meeting, we were hoping to find a person who could not only entertain our employees, but someone who could discuss the importance of teamwork and leadership. Your presentation fit our needs perfectly and provided an inspiration to us all. As Copano continues to grow, our need for strong teams and leadership becomes essential for our continued success. Your discussion about the importance of teamwork and how team members must step into temporary leadership roles when their expertise is called upon was of particular interest. Your experiences as a NASA astronaut and as an accomplished mountain climber kept the audience engaged. By weaving the slides from your five trips to space and your summit of Mt. Everest into the theme of our conference, you provided us with captivating realworld examples of how strong teams and leadership combined with preparation and execution of a plan is essential for success. Thank you again for helping make our management conference a success. I look forward to working with you again in the future.

Additionally, you kindly stayed on afterwards to answer questions and pose for photographs which was hugely appreciated. The feedback I had from attendees over the days after your session was amazing - they loved the stories you were able to share and the fact that it was all very inspirational but in a "it's possible" way, if that makes sense? Many sessions of this type can be too theoretical but people loved the fact that you got out there and achieved your goals.

I had the distinct privilege to conduct a fireside chat with Dr. Scott Parazynski on April 25, 2022 at the Association of Investment Management Sales Executives Annual Conference at the Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes in Orlando. I have been a longtime board member of this 800 person global organization, and Scott was the best keynote speaker we have ever had...by far. Dr. Parazynski was an absolute pleasure with whom to work. We completed our fireside chat outline two months in advance. At the conference, I had three "to-do's" for him: attend an opening cocktail reception, a client dinner for twelve people, and arrive at 7:15 am the morning of our keynote to do an A/V walkthrough. Scott was at each event early, fully prepped and with a smile on his face. He went the extra mile at every turn. He also stayed for nearly two hours after our keynote in front of 300 people ended to (in his words "learn more") and take photos with attendees. He also signed hundreds of copies of his book "The Sky Below". Dr. Parazynski was also an outstanding value. In addition, we received the best audience feedback that we have ever received for a speaker. I cannot recommend Dr. Scott Parazynski highly enough. He was a 100/100.
