A singer, songwriter, and environmental educator, Sharon Abreu co-founded the nonprofit Irthlingz Arts-Based Environmental Education. She uses music, theater, and speaking presentations to inspire people to become stewards of the Earth. As a singer, she blends elements of folk and folk rock. Her song "Change in the Climate" was selected as the theme song for Air America's nationally broadcast environmental program EcoTalk.

She has appeared in concert with the legendary Pete Seeger as well as on ABC-TV, on Joel Landy's nationally award-winning Songs of Freedom cable television show, and on numerous other radio and television programs. She has performed at the New York Aquarium with Emmy winner Bill Nye "The Science Guy," for the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development, the U.N. World Environment Day in San Francisco, the World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa, and to honor Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai in Berkeley, California.

Noted for her work with children, she created the climate change musical Penguins on Thin Ice for grades 8-12. Students from the High School for Environmental Studies in New York performed the complete 35-minute show in the U.N.'s Dag Hammarskjold Library Auditorium, receiving a standing ovation from delegates from around the world. She also co-wrote Turn the World Upside Down, an interactive musical show based on Hudson River Sloop Clearwater's Classroom of the Waves, teaching kids about recycling and keeping the water clean.

A graduate in music from New York University, she studied with renowned operatic soprano Licia Albanese and has filled leading and soloist roles with several opera companies and chamber vocal groups.

Sharon Abreu has discussed her blending of music and message before the North American Association of Environmental Educators and at the World Environmental Education Congress in Montreal. Her programs range from short musical presentations to mixtures of monologue and song to full-length multimedia performances.

She can keynote a conference, provide a melodious change of pace, or mount an evening's entertainment, mixing musical enjoyment with serious attention to themes of environmental education, spirituality and values, and environmental justice.

The Climate Monologues

"The Climate Monologues" is a one-woman musical show about climate change. It brings to life onstage the stories of real people in the U.S. and around the world - people affected by climate change, and people working to solve the climate crisis. Their stories are told in their own words and through original songs that complement the stories.
