VA, USA neuroscientist and ethicist, Dr James Giordano is Professor of Neurology and Biochemistry, and Chief of the Neuroethics Studies Program at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington DC. He currently serves on the European Commission's Human Brain Project, is an appointed member of the Department of Health and Human Services' Human Research Protections Committee, and has served as a science and technology advisor to the Joint Staff of the Pentagon, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
Dr. Giordano studies the ways that our brains function to engage in moral decisions and acts. As well, his research focuses upon the use of advanced methods and technologies of brain science in medicine, public life and national security and military operations, and the ethical, legal and social issues, questions and problems that these uses generate.
A much sought after and vibrant lecturer, he is the author of over 250 scientific papers, 7 books, and 11 governmental white papers on science, technology, biosecurity, and ethics, and has been featured on various news programs as well as the History Channel series How-2-Win, which explores ways that brain science can be used to improve daily life.
